"Gyros" is Greek for "to turn" or "to spin". Gyros gets its name from the way it is prepared - the meat rotates on a slowly spinning grill for several hours. Gyros is the Greek equivalent of a kebab. The delicious, seasoned meat is wrapped in flat bread and traditionally served with iceberg lettuce, tomato, red onion and a tzatziki sauce, for example.

Ingredients, 4 pieces

Preparation

  • Measure the water and oil into a bowl. Add the salt and flour in two parts while working the dough to mix the ingredients well. Let the dough rest in the bowl under a cloth for about 10 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into four parts and roll them out on a floured surface into loaves about 2 mm thin.
  • Fry the bread on both sides in a hot frying pan without oil or fat. Fry the first side for about 10-20 seconds and turn over. Use a spatula to press the bread so that air pockets start to form. When brown spots appear on both sides of the bread, the bread is ready.
  • You can eat the bread as it is or make rolls with toppings of your choice.

Tip

  • The bread stays soft when you cover it with a cloth after baking.
