Gluten-free without compromising quality
We offer ready-to-use flour mixes as well as other milling products. All our products are preservative and additive free and we do not use wheat starch at all.
Our products are also vegan, dairy free and contain no added sugar. For many of our products we have applied for the Gluten-free Label to make it easier to choose in the store.
We are constantly developing more products to offer a wider range of options for different special diets.
Our story
Our story began in Petri's family farm over 20 years ago. The Suhola farm in Virtasalmi is a pioneer in gluten-free farming, having grown buckwheat since the early 90s. Gluten-free Finnish buckwheat flour is our first product and in the beginning our mill only ground buckwheat.
Virtasalmen Viljatuote is named after the location of the farm and we still operate at the same address today - just in a slightly bigger mill!
Inspired by buckwheat, the first "Oman Mylly" ("Own Mill") flour mix was born, Gluten-free dark flour mix, with buckwheat as the main ingredient. We wanted to combine as many Finnish ingredients as possible in this flour mix, which is why it has been awarded the "Hyvää Suomesta" label.
When we started our journey, gluten-free baking had a bad reputation. The baked goods failed, tasted like cardboard and were mostly made with starches. We wanted to create something that we ourselves would want to use. With this idea, our "Oman Mylly" range continued to grow, and today
includes a comprehensive range of ready-made flour mixes for easy and delicious gluten-free baking!
We are still creating products with the same idea as when we started. High quality, safe and in line with our customers' needs and wishes. These are the products we use for parties as well as for making breakfast porridge!
"Hyvää Suomesta" - Good food from your own country Finland
The "Hyvää Suomesta" label is a mark of origin for Finnish food products. Food bearing the "Hyvää Suomesta" label is produced in Finland, using Finnish raw materials. Many products made from raw materials must have a Finnish content of between 75% and 100%. The label is product-specific.
Use of the label requires membership of the Food Information Association (Ruokatieto Yhdistys ry) and regular audits. Established in 1993, the label is currently used by almost 300 companies on around 10 000 products.
Among Virtasalmen Viljatuote's products, you will find the label on our gluten-free dark flour mix, Finnish buckwheat flour, blueberry muesli and all our oat products except gluten-free oat flour mix.
Gluten-free Company of the Year 2016

According to the selection panel, the wide range of products is a testament to the company's innovation and continuous product development. "
Virtasalmen Viljatuote has been one of Finland's Strongest since 2007
The company that has earned the "Strongest in Finland" certificate is creating strength in the Finnish economy now and in the future. The certificate is a sign of a company's positive financial indicators, creditworthiness, background information and good payment behaviour. The Finnish Strongest certificate tells customers, partners, creditors and other stakeholders that the cooperation with the company is sustainable. The certificate is based on Suomen Asiakastiedo's Rating Alfa credit rating.
