  • Boil the rice in salted water until soft, about. 40 minutes.

  • Rise in a very warm and draft-free place, covered with a baking sheet, for about. 30 minutes.
  • Prick the risen meat pies with a fork and bake in the oven at 220°C for 20 minutes.
  • Brush the cooked meat pies with butter and let them soften under a baking sheet and towel.

  1. I made it according to the instructions and the dough couldn't be baked, it was just mushy. I added a lot of flour before I could bake it.

  2. I tried it twice and it worked like a charm. I made with different fillings, but the dough worked just as well.

    1. Hi Sami,
Great to hear! It's easy to change the fillings to your liking.

  3. Hey, my husband is crazy about these, so I baked again. I was a bit short on flour, but I used Virtasalmi bun flour mix and oat flour mix 50/50. The dough turned out really good and was easy to bake. Good rise, soon in the oven. The man next to me is already licking his lips. Should take the pies on a camping trip tomorrow, but will see how many I have left in the morning... highly recommend the recipe! Because of celiac disease this recipe went straight to the next step 😋, so gluten-free is also possible!

    1. Hi Tarja,
Thank you for your nice comment! Great to hear that this recipe has become so popular in your household 🙂 Great to hear that!

  4. Hey where can you buy these Virtanen grain products without e.g. flour
Can you bake them in the oven with the same instructions, asks the thumb in the middle of the palm?

    1. Hello,
Cereal flour is available in S Group stores and K-stores. In S-Group stores, the selection may vary, e.g. the light flour mix is quite widely available. Our products are available on Kesko's listings and retailers or department managers can order products for the store shelves if they wish. We also have an online shop where all our consumer products can be found.
Just to clarify, what instructions did you mean?
