Gluten-free churros
Recipe by Virtasalmen Viljatuote Oy
Delicio! These gluten-free churros are crunchy on top, but soft on the inside. Indulge now!
Ingredients
2,5 dl water
50 g margarine
2 rkl sugar
0,25 tsp salt
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
- Sugar domes
1 dl sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
- Chocolate sauce
50 g margarine
100 g milk chocolate
n. 2 dl whipping cream
Preparation
- Put the oil in a saucepan or deep fat fryer and heat it up. The amount of oil depends on the size of the pan, a medium sized pan will need about a litre of oil. Heat the water, margarine, sugar and salt in a saucepan until bubbling. Add the flour to the mixture, stirring with an arrow. The dough is very dense at this point. Allow the dough to cool for a moment and in the meantime prepare the sugar icing by mixing the sugar and cinnamon in a shallow dish. Make a well in the dough and crack the eggs into it. Mix the dough with an electric mixer or a hand mixer until smooth. The dough will break up into crumbs before it mixes smoothly, just keep mixing!
- Use an arrow to transfer the dough into a piping bag with a star-shaped tip. Don't make the end of the bag too big, as the dough will push the tulle down. Close the bag tightly, for example with a bag-closer clip. When the oil is about 180 degrees, start frying. You can test the degree of oil, for example by dropping a small ball of dough and see if it rises to the surface to fry quickly. Drop churros of your desired length into the oil. Cut the dough with clean scissors. Fry the churros on both sides until evenly golden brown and the surface is crispy. Transfer the churros to a plate on a paper towel and roll in the sugar icing you have prepared.
- Do not cover with a dome after baking to keep the gluten-free churros crispy. Enjoy them as they are or dip them in a chocolate or caramel sauce, for example!
- Chocolate sauce
- Prepare the chocolate sauce in the fridge to wait. The sauce will become thicker and easier to dip, for example overnight. Melt the butter in a saucepan and add the cream. Add the chocolate. Mix until smooth.
I made it with a light flour mix, when there was no bun flour in the store, I used soy milk for the liquid. They were good :l
Hi Minna,
Great to hear that the recipe works even when it's made to look like itself!
Hello! Has anyone been able to make a firm dough with three eggs according to the instructions? When I tried it, it came out so skinny that it poured out of the piping bag. Very different from the instructions in the videos.
Hi Katja,
What an annoying and peculiar problem! We have tried the recipe several times ourselves and have heard from our customers that they have had success with this recipe. Just to make sure, did you add 2.5 dl of water and 2 dl of our flour mix?
